I really enjoyed this weeks topic for Sketchwars. Considering whats been going on, the topic has been gas masks. For a while, I had an idea about creating some sort of mask based off a CPU heatsink. I was influenced by my Noctua CPU fan, Banes mask from Batman, and a dash of Star Wars. The result is a something thats a little sinister and aggressive.
A praying mantis sketch
I’ve been using this time for more creative sketching for myself. Some time ago, I found a really cool picture of a praying mantis. I finally took some time to sketch it in my moleskine sketchbook with pen and tombos.
Sketchwars exploded views
After winning the chess piece challenge, I was given the honor of picking the next week’s topic. I was sketching exploded views for my freelance work and decided it would be an appropriate topic. This gave me an excuse to take apart an old remote I had lying around and sketch it. It was an interesting challenge that brought back memories of viscom from my days at CIA. Once again, I really enjoyed trying to create a clean sketch with pen and markers.
Sketchwars chess pieces
A few weeks ago one of the challenges for Sketchwars was to draw chess pieces. I submitted two entries. A digital knight sketch and a good old fashioned ideation page.
Random sketches
I have been doing more sketches lately. The top one is of my friend, Krishna. The bottom one is Charizard for my friend Alisha. I always love going back to traditional medium. I find it challenging, and as a way to become more disciplined with other tools. Plus, I always love it when friends give me suggestions to sketch.
