Corvette C8-R painting

I've been working on this painting since the pandemic started. I was inspired by Kirk Bennion's posting of the racing version of the C8 Corvette.

With the lighting, I wanted to make the Corvette leave darkness and enter the light. I wanted to emphasize the front details while letting the rest disappear into the background. This was a really fun challenge, and I will work on more paintings.

Here are some shots of the process:

My Munny project

Lately, I’ve been catching up on personal projects that I’ve been putting off. One of them was working on a Munny figure that was given to me by a former coworker. Initially, I was going to make a design that matched my desk. After applying the basecoat, I decided to add detail with woodgrain.

I was very satisfied with the woodgrain patterns, but then wanted to see how this would look with a fully glossy finish. I used processes that I learned from making car models during school. Right now, I’m going to let the second layer of clearcoat fully dry before another wet sanding and polish.

Its been ages since I’ve posted! a lot has happened since then. A position at Dell, helping out a local ID firm and now I’m venturing more into my own. Its been a little scary! One thing that I could say, is that I haven’t been bored.

In addition to industrial design, I enjoy painting. I painted “Magic Blue Bonnet” months ago. It was really fun and I enjoyed the process of making it. Once I took the tape off, it revealed the blonde plywood edges. It wasn’t bad, but it seemed a little distracting from the painting. Last week I laid down a light wash with acrylic paint and then added a stain. I think this “mahogany” works much better with the blue bonnet.

This painting is for sale and will be show at the upcoming “Art will save us” party.
